Buyer’s answer: A specification defines what the product must meet. A certificate of analysis reports selected results for a particular lot against stated requirements.

Read the specification first

Identify product code, formula revision, caffeine target, units, test methods and acceptance criteria. Without that context, a result on a COA can look satisfactory while answering a different question from the one the buyer intended.

Connect the COA to the lot

Check batch identification, dates, sample identity, reported units and the applicable limits. Confirm whether the document reports finished pouches or a raw material. An ingredient COA does not demonstrate the measured content of the final pouch.

Identify the document limits

A COA is not a manufacturing-site certificate, a full safety assessment, proof of shelf life or a destination-market authorization. Keep those workstreams visible rather than expecting one document to cover the whole sourcing decision.
